Target: Coupon Policy Update w/ Gift Card Deals

Target Savers! If you love using coupons and gift cards to get those moneymakers, Target has updated their policy to change how coupons are accepted on gift card promotions! On deals where the out-of-pocket cost is less than the value of the gift card earned, the new policy takes into account the gift card and adjusts the value of the coupon to make the item free! So, no more moneymakers now, just freebies! For clarification, see the example below.

Before:

Buy 3 – Gillette Venus Olay Shave Gel $2.97 On Sale= $8.91
Use 3 – $2.00 Off P&G Newspaper Coupon 9/25-$6.00
Total Price: $2.91
Get A $5.00 Target Gift Card when you buy 3
Final Price: 3 FREE + $2.09 MONEYMAKER

After New Policy:

Buy 3 – Gillette Venus Olay Shave Gel $2.97 On Sale+$8.91
Use 3 – $2.00 Off P&G Newspaper Coupon 9/25-$6.00
Total cost: $2.91
Get A $5.00 Target Gift Card when you buy 3
Final cost: 3 FREE!

On deals where there is a cheap product but there are no coupons available, the out-of-pocket price is still less than the gift card value. For example, if you can get a $5.00 Gift card when you buy three of something, make sure that your total is more than $5.00. If it is not, the register will not prompt a gift card on your order. You’ll need to purchase other higher-value qualifying product to bring your out-of-pocket cost up to the value of the gift card in order to get it! For clarification, check out this example:

Before:

Buy 3 - Nivea Creme Tin 1oz $0.94 each
Total cost: $2.82
Receive $5.00 Target Gift Card when you buy 3
Final cost: $2.18 Moneymaker

After New Policy:

Buy 2 – Nivea Creme Tin 1oz $0.94 each
Buy 1 – Nivea Hydrating Lip Care, 2 ct $3.49
Total cost: $5.37
Receive $5.00 Target Gift Card when you buy 3
Final cost: $0.37 for all or $0.12 each

We'd love to hear from you! Let us know what you think about this new change and how you think it will effect you and your shopping trips!
