Top 20 Keurig 2.0 Questions Answered

Top 20 Keurig® 2.0 Questions Answered
Cross Country Cafe has assembled a top 20 list of the most popular inquiries they've receive about Keurig 2.0 . Here's the  answers to take a look at and learn then go on to brewing your delicious Kcup coffee pods!

1. Do I need to buy special Kcup pods?
This very question by far has caused the most confusion and frustration with Keurig 2.0 coffee users. Unfortunately, Keurig did not do a great job explaining that yes indeed only certain Kcup coffees will work with Keurig 2.0. But, don't worry, there are nearly 400 K-cup roasts that will work, the struggle is determining which ones. How do you know? Just look for the Kcup seal on the box and a white ring on the outer edge of the Kcup lid.

2. What is a K-carafe?
K-carafe pods are the whole reason you want a Keurig 2.0. K-carafe's look just like a K-cup but are a bit larger. These larger pods enable you to brew an entire carafe of coffee with your Keurig rather than just a single cup expanding the options of your coffee maker.

3. Can I brew my own coffee with Keurig 2.0?

You are in luck, the answer on this has recently changed. Keurig heard your demands for this flexibility and answered with a filter that allows you to brew regular ground coffee in your Keurig. This handy little tool is called the My K-cup but, be careful there are a few different models. This is the one you need for all Keurig 2.0 brewer.

4. Once I have started the brewing process can I stop it?
Yes, you can stop your machine mid brew by pressing the power button and holding for one second. Do not attempt to lift the brew handle to stop the machine from brewing, this could result in burns.

5. Where is the power button on Keurig 2.0?

The power button can be found on the led screen in the lower right hand side.

6. Where is the serial number located?
The serial number of you Keurig 2.0 brewer is a bit hidden. To find it, remove the water reservoir and look on the now exposed side of the unit. You should see a 14 digit alphanumeric code, this is the serial number of your coffee maker.

7. How do I perform a water only brew cycle?
Simply lift and lower the brew handle with no Kcup inserted. The screen will display a message asking if you would like to dispense hot water. Check to make sure that you have a cup in place and push continue. This option comes in handy after brewing hot cocoa and other beverages that may leave the units needles dirty. In addition, I like to use the hot water for oatmeal, soup and other hot snacks.

8. How do I clean my Keurig 2.0?

Cleaning the Keurig 2.0 is a little different than previous Keurig models. but, don't fret, it is still super easy. Step by step instructions can be found here.

9. Is the carafe dishwasher safe?

No, unfortunately the carafe that comes with your machine is not dishwasher safe. In fact, it is recommended that all parts of your 2.0 be hand washed.

10. What type of plastic is the water reservoir made from?

The Keurig 2.0 water reservoir is made from FDA approved, BPA free polystyrene.

11. Does it come with a warranty?

Yes, all models of Keurig 2.0 coffee brewers come with a one year warranty.  This strong warranty is such a great benefit that Keurig provides, I have seen plenty of downtrodden consumers thrilled to learn that they will receive a replacement brewer after experiencing glitches in the first year.
P.S. If you have lost your warranty paperwork we have you covered. You can download a copy of your Keurig warranty here.

12. Can I use Vue cups?

Yes, Keurig Vue cups will work just fine in your 2.0.

13. What are the different brew numbers?

Brew #1 is a specific setting for Kcup coffees. #4 is set for Vue. #2, 3, 5 and 6 are set for future product options that Keurig has planned including treats such as lattes and cappuccinos!

14. I keep getting an "oops" message, what does this mean?

Generally, if you receive the infamous "oops" message it means that you are attempting to brew a non sanctioned Kcup or one that predates the 2.0 technology. We explain this error in detail here.

15. How many cups do K-carafe pods make?

Depending on the model you have, the carafe allows you to enjoy 2-5 cups, brewing anywhere from 22-30 ounces. That is the official answer. The truth is, I get about 2 and half, maybe 3 cups on the max setting with my K350. I personally love this because anything more would just get too cold anyways.

16. Can I adjust temperature of the water?

No, the water temperature is not adjustable. It is preset to the optimal coffee making level of about 192 degrees and can not be changed.

17. How do I brew hot cocoa and Cafe Escapes pods

These specialty type Kcups brew much more effectively in Keurig 2.0. The process is the same, insert your hot cocoa or Cafe Escapes Kcup, lower the brew handle and choose the "hot cocoa/other" option on the screen then brew away. This functionality has finally perfected the way those treat type Kcups are prepared.

18. What does the "strong" button do?

The strong selection on your Keurig 2.0 tells the unit to use a pulse brewing which allows for a deeper extraction of the coffee resulting in a richer, more satisfying cup of joe.

19. How much water does the reservoir hold?

The water reservoir of your coffee maker holds anywhere from 60 to 80 ounces depending on the model:
K300/ 350     60 ounces
K400/ 450     70 ounces
K500/ 550     80 ounces

20. Is the brewer UL approved?

Yes, Keurig 2.0 coffee brewers are UL approved for household use.
